Dimmer Than Dim App Reviews

Effective, super simple to activate, and FREE!

Im a new mama with a job and a dissertation that needed to be finished yesterday. This apps a lifesaver! Not kidding. I (silently) thank the developer(s) for it every time Im sitting/lying perfectly still and silent in a darkened room, because my daughter needs me close by in order to nurse/sleep, and I HAVE to get some work done (one- or semi-one-handed) on my tiny, beautiful, but glarlingly bright, Macbook Air. Dimming the screen is easy to accomplish quickly and without rousing the wee one, since all it takes is a fast move of the finger to the apps icon and two short, 1-finger taps. After that, Im free to shift, as needed, back and forth between nursing/snuggling/singing/etc. and researching/writing - and all without fear of waking the baby! (You might have to be a parent or caregiver to a little one to appreciate how powerful - and realistic - this fear can feel. If youre neither, trust me- Its a special kind of anxiety that most, save the truly exceptional, go to great lengths to reduce). Thank you to the folk who got this app up and running…and, thank you, in particular, for the icons position in the top menu bar. Love it. As for those browsing the app store, I cant recommend this one highly enough.

Should update now and fixxx

I installed it on mac osx 10.7.1 the bightness will go back when I go to new space and then dim x-x and as @Noah Meltzer. the icon should be hidden on the dock Thankx….

Energy hog!

Uses more battery than it saves!

Awesome, but where

Awesome, awesome. I can use my MBP without straining my eyes when we have a powerpoint or movie presentation in class, in the dark when people are sleeping, etc. DtD does what its supposed to do. Period. But wheres full-screen and Lion support? I know, I know. Its supposed to make your screen dimmer, so why need fullscreen support? The problem is if you have DtD activated, then open an app in full-screen, the new full-screen app will revert back to the default brightness settings, but only for that app. Also, if you already have a full-screen app open, and you switch to it when DtD is activated, it will still be bright for that app. DtD doesnt even support Mission Control or Exposè (although it does work for Launch Pad). There are no ways to change the brightness settings in these situations as hitting the DtD icon in the top bar does nothing.Fix this, and this appll (no pun intended) would be five-stars.

A lifesaver!

What a gem of a find. Simple, to-the-point, and easy to use. And Im extra happy because its free. Thanks for this great app!

great app but...

same as everyone else.. put it on top n no dock please, thanks. this app is awesome by the way, very useful at night time. just gotta answer what everyone is saying, the only one flaw of this app is it being on the dock..

Awsome App

This App is ten times better then that app called "Midnight" by Ollix. I think it is great that someone finally developed an app that can dim your mac display past the built in display dimmer settings. As a student, Im on the computer about 6 to 10 hours a day. Not only is this app saving my eyes from buggeyeyness; its also not leaving a dent in my wallet. Keep up the good work Zhen Liu. :)

Does the job, Missing some features.

Like other such applications Ive tried, it gets the job done but fails to maintain the "dim" effect when switching Desktops (what we called Spaces before Lion). Developer needs to add the option to run without an icon in the Dock. Very helpful for low-light situations, especially with the incredibly-bright iMac monitors. And its free!

Shorcuts

Please add keyboard shortcuts so we can change if the app is on or off.

I did it again

I give this 5 stars because I deleted it once thinking ehhh I dont need that and its just added trouble… unitl my eyes started hurting and the first thing I remembered was this app! Nice job and thank you!! Now can you end procrastination

thanks

Thank you! You know what would make this even better is if it had a feature that would allow you to alter the color being emitted from the screen. Many are suffering from sleep disorders, for the reason that light emitted by monitored screens. Blue light resembles daytime lighting and as an effect it disrupts the circadian cycle.

OK, but….

It doesnt work with Lions Full Screen Mode.

I LIKE IT

Very nice for dimming the screen so you can see what is happening on your desktop without sleeping the screen. I only wish it could dim a little dimmer.

Critical

I cant live without this app. I have mac mini and an HP external monitor. I could regularly push the buttons on the monitor to adjust the brightness, but that doesnt work as well and takes far too long. When I launch DtD I just let out a sigh of relief that my eyes are no longer burning! You dont even realize how bright the screen is until you see it dimmed.

I would like to see a paid version

Great, but it lacks Nocturne support. You can use dimmer type applications, or Nocturne, but not both. It would be great to have a paid version with "Nocturne mode" support, or Nocturne features integrated.

Solid but could be better

It dims the screen more than the system will. Thats what I needed. There could be more to it, and others have commented on that. I use it so seldom that I can put up with apparent shortcomings. But what I do need is for the dev to 1) get the icon out of my dock, and 2) change that awful, awful icon/logo.

Works Great!

I have a third party Asus monitor attached to my computer that is impossible to dim. The controls on the display are clunky and OS X wont dim the display in system preferences. Thank you for this app!

doesnt work in mission control or fullscreen apps

It doesnt affect the brightness while in mission control or in any fullscreen app Ive used making it almost pointless for me.

greed

i had purchased this previously. developer must have pulled some trick to raise the price because now its not in my purchases and the price is $5!!!! for what?!? Made me so mad i just built a version myself. btw why is this listed in education? Shame on apple for not holding any kind of standards on the marketplace.

Doesnt work in full screen

ive never reviewed an app but bc this app cost me 5 bucks i feel a need to speak up….unless this app is at the very least configured to work in full screeen i do not recommend anyone to buying this app
