Perfect for reading and writing
As a biochemistry/civil engineering PhD student I am constantly reading and writing papers. I use my 24” Asus monitor at home connected to my MacBook Pro and find that the screen brightness on the Asus is way too bright even on “0” brightness. MS Word 2011 has an option for a blue background with white text but I find the contrast just as harsh as black on white. For Adobe Acrobat, you can change the background color to anything you want, but Figures and Tables still remain white; again, the contrast is annoying and almost defeats the purpose of changing the background.
With Dimmer than Dim I can adjust the screen brightness below what is possible with my monitor-Perfect! As others have mentioned, an update would be nice to keep the brightness consistent from desktop to desktop. One minor downfall is that when my MBP is set up as the “secondary” screen, the app does not affect it. Trying to switch the brightness on the 2ndary monitor does not work and only adjust the primary screen. However, because my MBP is the secondary monitor there is no need for adjusting brightness because I can manually adjust it with the standard brightness keys. This makes me wonder what it is like for multiple external monitors though. Still, it does everything I need it to so, 5 stars!
